Hey! So glad you could join us!

We are Andrew and Venessa. An ordinary twenty-something Canadian couple with a passion for adventure and the world! So you wanna know more about us? Well here you go!

We are your average Canadian couple who grew up near the Rocky Mountains, we love the outdoors and whether it’s winter or summer. There’s adventure to be found in every season.

By the time we met both of us had already developed a passion for travel and the world. In the summer of 2013, only 4 months into our relationship, we both travelled to Europe separately for a month. There was no shortage of nightly skype dates though! Naturally we were pretty happy to see each other when we finally got home. But it wasn’t long before we were bitten by the travel bug again but this time in a big way.

We made a decision to follow our dreams.

Now we by no means had crazy careers or owned a house or anything like that. So how on earth were we suppose to get enough money for that? Well it took us about a year but we worked our asses off and saved every penny we could. It took a lot of dedication because lets face it retail jobs don’t always pay a ton.

But we did it. We saved up about $10,000 each which was more than enough to take us across the globe on our first long term trip to New Zealand.

Travelling as a Couple

We are best friends as well as a couple. We love spending time together, we love living together and most importantly we love travelling together.

Before we left on our whirlwind trip across the globe we got told by so many people that we probably wouldn’t make it back home still together. They couldn’t be more wrong! Travelling together actually strengthened our relationship while still allowing each of us to grow as individuals. It didn’t come without it’s bumps and bruises though!

How This Blog Started

We started our blog because we wanted people to know that travelling as a couple is just as rewarding as travelling solo. Sometimes it’s even more rewarding! We constantly seek adventure and know there are tons of other couples and people out there like us. So why not share our stories with them in hopes maybe they will share theirs with us?

We want to show people that it’s totally possible to live an extraordinary life as an ordinary couple. Sometimes it’s daunting to feel like you can’t do all the things in life you’ve always dreamed of. But you can! All it takes is a little time and dedication.

All you have to do is take that first leap and go with the flow. Nothing will ever go as planned but sometimes those failed moments make the best memories.

We live by the idea that ‘To Inspire is to Change‘ because we believe that even just a little bit of inspiration can put someone on the path to changing their life and finding purpose. Much like travel did for us.

There are five things we hope you get out of our blog:

  • Be inspired and find the courage to do something about it
  • ‘Middle-Class’ travel is possible and completely affordable
  • Travelling as a couple can actually enhance your relationship rather than ruin it.
  • You never have to give up your sense of adventure

  • The worst situations always turn into the best stories.

Together we are Toques & Boots.

We have a lot to learn about the world and ourselves but here’s to you joining us on that journey! Hopefully you find a piece of yourself within us.

      Hey Tony!
Since Visa is widely accepted we typically stick with that, but it is always good to carry a little bit of cash just in case! Thank you so much for the lovely compliments!

    Hi there Vanessa and Andrew,
I am a Kiwi living and settled in Canada. We recently travelled as a family back to NZ. Great to read your blog and your inspiring stories from travelling as a couple. If you’re travelling with the right person it will always make you stronger and you will have memories to look back on that you experienced together. Recommend you try India sometime, would love to hear your stories.

      Hello Hayley!!

First of all thank you sooo much for such kind words!! Travelling with the right person definitely makes a big difference too. You really have to know and trust your partner it takes a lot of work in some cases. But we wouldn’t give up the memories we share for the world! We can imagine travelling as a family is just as amazing! (and to amazing NZ no less!). We would have relocated to New Zealand if we had the chance. Maybe one day 😉

India is definitely on our list!! So most certainly look out for those stories in the future.

Hopefully you are settled in an awesome place in Canada (hard not to find an awesome place)!!

      Thanks again!

      – Venessa
